Biography
Dr Zammitt grew up and was educated in Gibraltar, studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School and graduated in 1998. She undertook specialist training in Endocrinology & Diabetes in Edinburgh between 2005 and 2010 with a year out of programme in Cork University Hospital, Ireland. She was appointed to a Consultant post in Endocrinology & Diabetes in 2010 at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. She obtained her postgraduate degree (MD) from the University of Edinburgh in 2012 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh that same year. Her clinical interests include general endocrinology, thyroid eye disease, the late endocrine effects of cancer therapies, adolescent/transition care in both endocrinology and diabetes and the management of type 1 diabetes. Dr Zammitt was appointed Clinical Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Endocrinology & Diabetes in 2015.
Dr Zammitt has undertaken a period of research investigating the effects of hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) on brain function and has been supervising research fellows in hypoglycaemia since 2011.
